# DivvLaunches: full text for agents > DivvLaunches is a product launch and discovery platform where founders and makers discover new products, support launches, and launch their own. Generated 2026-10-13 from the live site. Short index: https://www.divvlaunches.com/llms.txt. ## About DivvLaunches DivvLaunches (divvlaunches.com) is an airport-themed product launch and discovery platform for indie makers and early-stage founders. Founders book a launch (a "flight"), it goes live on its launch day, early adopters upvote it, and the top three of the day are frozen onto a podium. Every listing gets a permanent page with a dofollow link to the product's website. - Who it is for: founders, indie hackers and small teams launching software, AI products, developer tools and similar products. - Built in public by Divv Saxena. Contact: divv@divvlaunches.com. - First launch day: 2026-08-18. - Domain rating (VerifiedDR): 34. ## How launching works 1. Sign in with Google and book a launch date at https://www.divvlaunches.com/submit. The earliest date is tomorrow. A launch day is a calendar day in Asia/Kolkata (India Standard Time). 2. Free launches need the DivvLaunches badge on the product's website; a crawler verifies it, and the launch is published only once the badge is verified. There are 10 free launches a day. The badge can be added up to 72 hours after booking. 3. First Class ($11.99, one time) skips the badge and the queue, is not counted toward the 10 free slots, sits above free launches on the board, and is the top card in the daily email. 4. On launch day, voting runs from 00:00 to 23:59 Asia/Kolkata on that day only. Self-votes do not count. 5. At the end of the day the top three launches win Gold, Silver and Bronze and are archived at https://www.divvlaunches.com/winners. 6. Every launch keeps a permanent page (https://www.divvlaunches.com/product/) with a dofollow link to the product website, launch-day stats and the maker credits. The launch kit (a free PDF) and the Flight School guides at https://www.divvlaunches.com/flight-school cover idea validation, the first 100 users, launch-day execution, asset specs and the badge. ## Pricing - Free Launch: $0. Someone in a founder group says "nice, but your DR is only 3." Another directory proudly shows "DR 72" on its submit page. Suddenly everyone is talking about a number you have never checked. ![What is Domain Rating: a 0 to 100 gauge, every new site starts at 0](https://www.divvlaunches.com/media/blogs/c809e74d-906f-4f9a-8845-e49e329f2ec6/1791868539384-ce0bfc308bb6.png) You launch your product. Someone in a founder group says "nice, but your DR is only 3." Another directory proudly shows "DR 72" on its submit page. Suddenly everyone is talking about a number you have never checked. So what is Domain Rating, and should you, a maker with a brand new site, actually care? Short answer: it is a useful signal, but it is not a Google ranking factor and it is not something to obsess over in your first few months. Let's break it down in plain words. ## What is Domain Rating? Domain Rating, or DR, is a score from 0 to 100 made by the SEO tool [Ahrefs](https://ahrefs.com/blog/domain-rating/). It tells you how strong a website's backlink profile is compared to every other site in Ahrefs' database. Think of it like a popularity score among websites. If lots of trusted sites link to you, your DR goes up. If almost nobody links to you, it stays near zero. Two things to remember from day one: - DR is only about links. It does not look at your traffic, your design, your content quality or how many users you have. - DR is relative. Ahrefs itself says you cannot call 30 or 50 a "good" DR on its own. It only makes sense when you compare it to similar sites. ## How DR is worked out (the simple version) Ahrefs looks at every website that links to you with a dofollow link. Then it asks two questions about each one. 1. How strong is that linking site? A link from a high DR site carries more weight. 2. How many other sites does it link to? A site shares its strength across everyone it links to. So a site that links to 5 domains passes on more than one that links to 5,000. This is why a link from a small, focused DR 26 blog can help you more than a link from a huge DR 73 site that links out to thousands of places. Ahrefs gives almost this exact example in [its own help docs](https://help.ahrefs.com/ahrefs-terminology/site-explorer/what-is-ahrefs-domain-rating-and-how-is-it-calculated). ![A small focused blog passes a big share of strength, a huge site linking to thousands passes a tiny share](https://www.divvlaunches.com/media/blogs/c809e74d-906f-4f9a-8845-e49e329f2ec6/1791868539831-78c943d6e9d5.png) A few more rules that surprise beginners: - **Only the first link from a site counts.** Ten links from the same website add the same DR as one link. - **Nofollow links do not count.** If you read our [backlink beginner guide](https://www.divvlaunches.com/blog/what-is-a-backlink-beginner-guide), you already know the difference. - **The scale gets harder as you climb.** Moving from DR 10 to 20 is fairly easy. Moving from DR 70 to 80 takes far more links from far stronger sites. - **Your DR can drop without you doing anything.** Since it is relative, if other sites grow faster than you, your number can slip. ![The DR climb: each step from 0 to 80 gets taller and harder](https://www.divvlaunches.com/media/blogs/c809e74d-906f-4f9a-8845-e49e329f2ec6/1791868540177-99e9ae567527.png) ## DR vs DA vs Authority Score DR is not the only score out there. Each big SEO tool has its own version, built from its own crawl of the web. - **Score** | **Made by** | **Range** | **What it looks at** - Domain Rating (DR) | Ahrefs | 0 to 100 | Backlinks only - Domain Authority (DA) | Moz | 1 to 100 | Backlinks, used to predict ranking chances - Authority Score (AS) | Semrush | 0 to 100 | Backlinks plus organic traffic and spam signals The big lesson here: do not compare scores across tools. The same site can be DR 31 on Ahrefs and DA 14 on Moz, because each tool sees a different set of links. Pick one tool and track your number there over time. ## Does Google use DR? No. Google does not use Ahrefs DR, Moz DA or Semrush Authority Score. Google has said for years that it does not use any third party authority score. Raising your DR does not directly push you up in search. So why does everyone talk about it? Because DR tends to move in the same direction as rankings. Sites with lots of good links usually rank better, and DR is a quick way to see that. Ahrefs itself notes that DR lines up with rankings fairly well, but its page level score (URL Rating) lines up even better. Where DR is actually useful: - **Sizing up competitors.** If every site ranking for your keyword is DR 70+, a DR 5 site will struggle there for now. - **Judging a link opportunity.** It helps you guess which directories and blogs are worth your time. - **Tracking your own progress.** A slow climb over months shows your link building is working. ## Does DR matter for a brand new site? Honest answer: a little, but much less than you think. Every new site starts at DR 0. That is normal, not a problem to fix overnight. In your first few months, these matter far more than your DR: - People actually using and talking about your product - Pages that answer real questions your users search for - A fast site that works well on mobile - A handful of genuine links from relevant places Where DR starts to matter is when you want to rank for competitive keywords. Then a stronger link profile gives you a real edge. Until then, treat DR as a progress bar, not a goal. One warning: never buy a "DR boost." Ahrefs has openly said spammers have found ways to inflate DR with junk links. A fake high DR does nothing for real traffic, and spammy links can hurt you with Google. ## How to check your DR for free You do not need a paid Ahrefs plan to see your number. 1. Open the free [Ahrefs Website Authority Checker](https://ahrefs.com/website-authority-checker). 2. Paste your domain, for example yourproduct.com, without the https part. 3. Hit check. You will see your DR plus how many sites link to you. ![Check your DR for free in 3 steps](https://www.divvlaunches.com/media/blogs/c809e74d-906f-4f9a-8845-e49e329f2ec6/1791868540450-46788f230c44.png) Want more detail on your own site? Ahrefs Webmaster Tools is free if you verify that you own the domain. It shows your backlinks and basic site health over time. Tip: check your DR once a month, not once a day. It moves slowly, and staring at it daily will only stress you out. ## How to grow your DR the healthy way The goal is not a higher number. The goal is more real sites linking to you, and DR follows along. Here is where most indie makers get their first links. ![Healthy ways to grow DR versus things to avoid](https://www.divvlaunches.com/media/blogs/c809e74d-906f-4f9a-8845-e49e329f2ec6/1791868540727-2f10142fe548.png) 1. **Launch on maker platforms.** Product launch sites and maker directories are the easiest first links you will ever get. Our list of [25 platforms every indie maker should know](https://divvlaunches.com/blog) is a good place to start. 2. **Submit to relevant directories.** Pick directories in your niche, not every directory on the internet. Ten relevant ones beat a hundred random ones. 3. **Build something people want to link to.** A free tool, a template or an original data post gets links on its own. People link to useful things. 4. **Write guest posts or join podcasts.** Share what you learned building your product. Most hosts link back to your site. 5. **Share your build in public.** Posts on X, LinkedIn and Reddit are mostly nofollow, but they get you noticed. Bloggers and newsletter writers often find products there and link to them later. What to avoid: - Buying links or "DR boost" packages - Link exchanges with random sites you have nothing in common with - Spammy directories that list thousands of unrelated sites on one page These can raise your DR on paper while doing nothing for real visitors, and some can get your site in trouble with Google. ## Common DR myths **"Higher DR means more traffic."** Not always. Plenty of high DR sites get almost no search traffic, and some low DR sites get a lot because they answer the right questions. **"Only high DR links are worth getting."** A relevant link from a small, focused site can help more than one from a giant site that links to everyone. **"Google ranks sites by DR."** Google does not use DR at all. It is a tool's estimate, not Google's. **"My DR dropped, so I did something wrong."** DR is relative. It can dip when other sites grow, when a site that linked to you disappears, or when Ahrefs updates its data. **"A DR 50 directory will fix my SEO."** One link is one link. Steady, varied links over months matter far more than any single one. ## Quick recap - DR is an Ahrefs score from 0 to 100 that measures how strong your backlinks are. - It is relative, link based only, and not used by Google. - Every new site starts at 0, and that is fine. - Focus on real links from relevant places, and your DR will climb on its own. Here's what actually got clicks. - URL: https://www.divvlaunches.com/blog/we-looked-at-48-real-launches-heres-what-actually-got-clicks - Markdown: https://www.divvlaunches.com/blog/we-looked-at-48-real-launches-heres-what-actually-got-clicks.md - Author: Divv Saxena - Category: Launch Playbook - Published: 2026-10-12 - Summary: Oct 12, 2026 · If you've read any launch advice, you've heard it all. Add a demo video. Post three screenshots. Write a detailed description. Launch on a Tuesday. We run DivvLaunches, a launch platform for indie makers, so we could actually check. We looked at 48 real launches from August 18 to October 4, 2026, and tracked every click from a listing to the product's website in its first 7 days. The short version: most of that advice made no visible difference. A few things did, and some of them surprised us. ## First, the real numbers Together, the 48 launches got 145 website clicks in their first week. The median launch got 1 click, and 19 of the 48 got none at all. The top 10 launches took 72% of all clicks. ![A few launches take most of the clicks: website clicks in the first 7 days, one bar per launch](https://www.divvlaunches.com/media/blogs/c809e74d-906f-4f9a-8845-e49e329f2ec6/1791798988177-0984f37b1488.png) We're sharing these numbers because hiding them would make the rest of this post less useful. 48 launches is a small sample, so treat everything below as a strong hint about what to test, not a law. ## 1. The day after launch beat launch day Launch day brought only 14% of first-week clicks. The next day brought 31%, more than twice as many. ![Most clicks arrive after launch day: website clicks by day since launch](https://www.divvlaunches.com/media/blogs/c809e74d-906f-4f9a-8845-e49e329f2ec6/1791798988517-d0e64b34d2cc.png) We think it's time zones. Our launch day runs on India time and ends at midnight IST, which is still the afternoon of the same day in New York. So a lot of US visitors who browse "on launch day" actually land on our day 2. **What to do:** don't post once and disappear. Plan a second round of sharing for the day after launch. Post a thank-you, reply to comments, and share your listing link again. ## 2. Your listing keeps working after launch week 29% of all clicks came after the first 7 days. Listings kept getting found and clicked for weeks after their launch. This is the part most founders miss. A launch isn't a single day. A good listing is a permanent page that keeps sending people your way, and on DivvLaunches it also gives you a backlink that helps your SEO for as long as it's live. If backlinks are new to you, start with our [beginner guide to backlinks](https://divvlaunches.com/blog). **What to do:** write your listing for the person who finds it two months from now, not only for the crowd on launch day. ## 3. Outside attention mattered more than the listing The biggest pattern in the data wasn't about listings at all. Every one of our top 10 launches went out between August 18 and September 14. Every one of the bottom 10 went out after September 18. ![DivvLaunches launch study · 48 launches, Aug 18 to Oct 4, 2026 · hover a dot to see the launch](https://www.divvlaunches.com/media/blogs/c809e74d-906f-4f9a-8845-e49e329f2ec6/1791798988818-a946feaa9b8e.png) DivvLaunches launch study · 48 launches, Aug 18 to Oct 4, 2026 · hover a dot to see the launch What changed? In those first weeks, posts about DivvLaunches on X were sending a wave of visitors to the site. When that wave calmed down, clicks dropped for everyone. The listings themselves weren't any worse. We saw the same thing with single launches. Launch-day upvotes tracked clicks more closely than anything else we measured. Upvotes don't cause clicks. They're a sign that the founder brought people with them. Where a listing shows up matters too. About half of all clicks came from our homepage. Our 5 featured launches got a median of 10 clicks, against 1 for free launches. That's only 5 launches, and featured listings sit at the top, so it measures placement more than the products. But it shows how much being seen early counts. ![DivvLaunches click log · all launches, all time, as of Oct 12, 2026](https://www.divvlaunches.com/media/blogs/c809e74d-906f-4f9a-8845-e49e329f2ec6/1791798989128-5f88ad7b555c.png) DivvLaunches click log · all launches, all time, as of Oct 12, 2026 ![Free vs First Class launches: median 7-day clicks by tier](https://www.divvlaunches.com/media/blogs/c809e74d-906f-4f9a-8845-e49e329f2ec6/1791798989482-6ba94fe76a47.png) The lesson: a launch platform amplifies attention. It can't create it from nothing. **What to do:** before launch day, decide where you'll share it. X, LinkedIn, your newsletter, a community you're part of. A small group of people who know you is worth more than any listing tweak. ## 4. Short taglines did better, and long ones got cut off Shorter taglines leaned slightly better. The top 10 launches had a median tagline of 9 words. The bottom 10 had 18. Across all 48 launches the link was weak, so take this as a nudge, not a rule. ![Illustration · the 120-character tagline cap on DivvLaunches listings](https://www.divvlaunches.com/media/blogs/c809e74d-906f-4f9a-8845-e49e329f2ec6/1791798989753-ebe447f178ed.png) Illustration · the 120-character tagline cap on DivvLaunches listings ![Tagline length vs clicks: each dot is one launch](https://www.divvlaunches.com/media/blogs/c809e74d-906f-4f9a-8845-e49e329f2ec6/1791798990017-547701735594.png) One finding was hard to ignore, though. Taglines on DivvLaunches are capped at 120 characters, and 60% of the ones we studied were 110 characters or longer. Many got cut off mid-sentence, ending in things like "Try it free and". A cut-off tagline looks unfinished, and the reader never gets your point. Some of the best performers said it in a handful of words: "The modern truck dispatch software." "Where to submit your product, and exactly how." **What to do:** keep your tagline under 10 words. Say what it is and who it's for. Save the details for the description. ## 5. What made no difference Some of the most common launch advice didn't show up in our data at all. - **Screenshots.** Launches with 1 screenshot and launches with 3 had the same median: 1 click. - **A demo video or GIF, on free launches.** Free launches with and without a video got the same average, 1.9 clicks each. - **Description length.** Long and short descriptions did about the same. - **Launching on a busy day.** Days with 8 launches didn't do worse than quiet days. - **Day of the week.** Mondays looked best, but that rests on 7 launches, two of them on the same day. Not enough to pick a day. ![DivvLaunches launch study · rank correlation with first-week clicks, 48 launches, Aug 18 to Oct 4, 2026](https://www.divvlaunches.com/media/blogs/c809e74d-906f-4f9a-8845-e49e329f2ec6/1791798990310-308cd3a92c14.png) DivvLaunches launch study · rank correlation with first-week clicks, 48 launches, Aug 18 to Oct 4, 2026 This doesn't mean screenshots and videos are useless. A good video might help someone decide to sign up after they click, and we only measured the click. It just means they're not what gets the click in the first place. So don't delay your launch to perfect them. ## The bug we found while writing this While digging through these numbers, we found a problem on our own site. The Website button on homepage listings was hidden on phones, and it had been that way since the morning of our very first launch day. So every launch in this study lost its clicks from phone visitors on the homepage. It hurt all launches equally, so the comparisons above still hold. But the real totals should have been higher. We fixed it on October 12, 2026. If you launched with us before then, thank you for your patience. Your listing now has a working button on every screen size. ## Three launches worth copying [Before publishing: get each founder's permission. For Zinn Hub, confirm whether First Class was bought or comped.] ### Zinn Hub: a tiny tagline, a detailed story Zinn Hub got 27 clicks in its first week, the most of any launch. Its tagline is just four words: "The Fairer Freelance Marketplace." Its description goes the other way, a detailed 441 words, plus a demo video. It was also the only listing with enough views to measure: about 1 in 4 people who opened the page clicked through. It was a featured launch, so it had top placement on launch day. ![Zinn Hub's listing on DivvLaunches](https://www.divvlaunches.com/media/blogs/c809e74d-906f-4f9a-8845-e49e329f2ec6/1791798990601-28a0476c2965.png) ### SubmitMap: the free tier, done well SubmitMap launched on the free tier and finished first on its launch day with 8 upvotes, the most of any launch in the study. It got 8 clicks in week one and 17 so far, and it's the most-viewed listing on the site. Its tagline tells you exactly what you get: "Where to submit your product, and exactly how." ![SubmitMap's listing on DivvLaunches](https://www.divvlaunches.com/media/blogs/c809e74d-906f-4f9a-8845-e49e329f2ec6/1791798990915-87d12712ee10.png) ### Otto Dispatch: plain and specific Otto Dispatch got 8 clicks in its first week with zero upvotes. Five-word tagline, a 27-word description, one screenshot. Half of the people who viewed its page clicked through. No hype needed: it says exactly what it is, and the right people found it. ## Your launch checklist - ☐ Write a tagline under 10 words that says what it is and who it's for - ☐ Check that your tagline doesn't get cut off on the listing - ☐ Before launch day, pick where you'll share it: X, LinkedIn, your newsletter, a community - ☐ Share on launch day, then plan a second round for the day after - ☐ Reply to every comment on launch day - ☐ Link to your listing from your site and socials so it keeps working after launch week - ☐ Don't delay your launch to perfect screenshots or a video ## A few honest notes 48 launches is a small sample, and one or two launches can move any median. We counted clicks, not unique visitors, and we can't see what happens after the click, like signups or sales. Our page view data only starts on September 11, 2026. We'll rerun this study at 100 launches and update this post. If you're getting ready to launch, [book your launch on DivvLaunches](https://divvlaunches.com) and put this checklist to work. And if you've launched with us, we'd love to hear what worked for you. ### What is GEO? By the end, you'll be able to explain it to a friend, and you'll have a 10 minute test to check if AI tools recommend your product today. ## GEO in one sentence **GEO (Generative Engine Optimization) is the work of making AI tools understand, trust and mention your product when people ask them for recommendations.** Let's break the name down, one word at a time: - **Generative** means the tool *writes* a fresh answer for you, instead of showing a list of websites. - **Engine** is the tool doing the answering, like ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini or Perplexity. - **Optimization** means making small improvements so you show up more often. So GEO is simply: *making improvements so answer-writing tools mention you.* That's it. Everything else in this guide is just the "how". The name comes from a 2023 research paper by a team that included researchers from Princeton and IIT Delhi. They tested what makes a website more likely to show up inside AI answers, and we'll use some of what they found later on. ## The simple picture: a library vs a well read friend Imagine you want a good book to read. **The old way** is the library catalog. You type "mystery" and it hands you a stack of 200 cards. You flip through them, read the backs, and decide for yourself. That's Google. It gives you a list, and you do the work. **The new way** is asking a friend who has read almost every book in the library. You say "I want a good mystery" and they say "Read these two. The first is short and fun, the second is a classic." That's ChatGPT. It doesn't give you a list. It gives you *an answer*. ![Search engine vs AI tool · same question, two very different results](https://www.divvlaunches.com/media/blogs/c809e74d-906f-4f9a-8845-e49e329f2ec6/1791222895995-022d3147cda2.png) Search engine vs AI tool · same question, two very different results Here's the key idea: your friend can only recommend books they have heard about, and they recommend the ones that people keep talking about in a good way. **GEO is making sure the well read friend has heard of your product, understands what it does, and has heard good things about it.** ## How does an AI tool decide what to recommend? AI tools get their answers from two places. Some use one, many use both. **Path 1: Memory.** Before an AI tool is released, it reads a huge part of the internet: blog posts, Reddit threads, reviews, directories, help docs. This is called *training*. It's like your well read friend remembering everything they read. But that memory has a cutoff date, so anything newer is missing until the next update. **Path 2: Live search.** When you ask a question, many AI tools also search the web right then, read the top pages they find, and write an answer from them. This is like your friend quickly looking something up before replying. ![Where an AI answer comes from · two paths, one answer](https://www.divvlaunches.com/media/blogs/c809e74d-906f-4f9a-8845-e49e329f2ec6/1791222896308-9a1fe68c89f8.png) Where an AI answer comes from · two paths, one answer Notice what both paths have in common. **The AI can only recommend what it has read about.** And it trusts things that show up in many places, explained clearly, by people who seem to know what they're talking about. So if your product is only mentioned on your own website, the AI has heard exactly one voice saying you're great: yours. That's not very convincing, to a person or to an AI. ## SEO vs GEO: what's the difference? SEO gets your page *ranked* in a list. GEO gets your product *mentioned* in an answer. They're cousins, not enemies. - SEO | GEO - Where you show up | Google's list of links | Inside the answer ChatGPT, Claude or Perplexity writes - What winning looks like | Ranking on page one | Being one of the few names the AI mentions - What gets the click | Your title and description in the results | The reason the AI gives for recommending you - Who you need to convince | Google's ranking system | The AI, by being talked about well across the web - Biggest helpers | Keywords, backlinks, fast pages | Clear explanations, mentions on trusted sites, real reviews, facts and numbers One important thing: **good SEO feeds good GEO.** When an AI tool does a live search, it usually reads the pages that already rank well. So everything you learned in our backlink guide still counts. GEO just adds a few new habits on top. ## Five things that actually help Remember the well read friend. Everything below is just a way of making sure they hear about you more often, from more people, in clearer words. ![Five GEO habits · each one feeds the same goal](https://www.divvlaunches.com/media/blogs/c809e74d-906f-4f9a-8845-e49e329f2ec6/1791222896566-0ac7bb1a632a.png) Five GEO habits · each one feeds the same goal **1. Be listed where AI tools look.** When someone asks "what are good tools for X", AI tools lean on pages that already list tools for X: launch platforms, directories, comparison posts and "best of" lists. Every quality listing is one more voice saying "this product exists and does this". Our [25 platforms guide](https://divvlaunches.com/blog) is a good place to start picking where to list. **2. Say clearly what you do.** AI tools repeat what they understand. If your homepage says "We reimagine the future of productivity", the AI has nothing to repeat. Compare: - Vague: "A smarter way to work." - Clear: "A free invoice app for freelancers in the US that sends invoices in one tap." Use that same clear sentence everywhere: your site, your listings, your social bios. Repetition helps the AI connect your name to your use case. **3. Get real people talking about you.** AI tools trust what many different people say more than what you say about yourself. A genuine Reddit thread, a review, a tweet from a happy user or a mention in someone's newsletter all count. Never fake these. Just make it easy for happy users to share, and show up helpfully in communities where your users hang out. **4. Add facts, numbers and quotes.** This one comes straight from the [original GEO research](https://arxiv.org/abs/2311.09735v3). The researchers tested nine ways of improving a page and found that adding statistics, quotes from credible people and citations to sources gave the biggest boost, up to 40% more visibility inside AI answers. So instead of "our app is fast", write "our app creates an invoice in under 10 seconds" (if it's true!). **5. Answer the questions people actually ask.** People talk to AI tools in full questions: "what's the cheapest way to launch an app?", "is Product Hunt worth it for a small app?" Write pages, FAQs and blog posts that answer those exact questions in plain words. When the AI goes looking for an answer, your page is a perfect match. ## Common GEO myths (and the truth) **Myth: "GEO replaces SEO."** Truth: GEO sits on top of SEO. AI tools that search the web mostly read pages that already rank, so you still need both. **Myth: "Stuff your page with keywords and the AI will pick you."** Truth: the GEO researchers tested this too, and keyword stuffing barely helped. AI tools care about clear, useful information, not repeated words. **Myth: "Only big brands get recommended."** Truth: big brands win broad questions like "best project management tool". Small products often win specific ones like "best invoice app for freelance designers in the US". Pick a clear niche and own it. **Myth: "Do it once and you're done."** Truth: an AI tool's memory only updates when a new version is trained, which can take months. Live search changes faster, but it still needs pages and mentions to find. Think of GEO as a habit, not a one time task. **Myth: "Everyone sees the same answer."** Truth: answers change with the exact wording, the tool, and sometimes from one try to the next. That's why the test below asks you to try several questions in several tools. ## Try it yourself: the 10 minute GEO test The best way to understand GEO is to see it in action with your own product. Grab a coffee and do this: 1. **Write 5 questions your ideal user would ask.** Write them the way a real person talks, not like keywords. For example: "What's a simple app to track my workouts?" or "Where can I launch my side project for free?" 2. **Ask each question in 3 AI tools.** For example ChatGPT, Claude and Perplexity. Open a fresh chat each time. 3. **Write down what happened.** Were you mentioned? Who was mentioned instead? What reason did the AI give for each pick? 4. **Study the winners.** Search the products that keep showing up. Where are they listed? How do they describe themselves in one sentence? Who is talking about them? 5. **Pick one habit from this guide and work on it for a month.** Then run the same test again and compare. You can copy this simple table to track your results: - Question | ChatGPT | Claude | Perplexity | Who got mentioned instead - Question 1 | Yes / No | Yes / No | Yes / No - Question 2 | Yes / No | Yes / No | Yes / No - Question 3 | Yes / No | Yes / No | Yes / No Don't worry if you get "No" everywhere on your first try. Most new products do. The point is to know where you stand so you can watch it improve. ## Can you explain GEO to a friend now? Here's a simple test of whether something really clicked: can you explain it in 30 seconds without any jargon? Try saying this out loud: > "People now ask AI tools like ChatGPT what to use, and the AI gives them a few names instead of a list of links. The AI can only recommend products it has read about, and it trusts the ones that lots of people talk about clearly and positively. GEO is just making sure that's true for my product: being listed in the right places, explaining clearly what I do, getting real people to mention me, using real facts, and answering the questions people actually ask." If you can say that, you understand GEO better than most people building products today. Start small. Run the 10 minute test this week, fix your one sentence description, and get listed on a few trusted launch platforms. The well read friend is always listening. Make sure they hear about you. **Source:** Aggarwal et al., [GEO: Generative Engine Optimization](https://arxiv.org/abs/2311.09735v3), Princeton, Georgia Tech, Allen Institute for AI and IIT Delhi, published at KDD 2024. ### Where to launch your product: 25 platforms every indie maker should know - URL: https://www.divvlaunches.com/blog/where-to-launch-your-product-25-platforms-every-indie-maker-should-know - Markdown: https://www.divvlaunches.com/blog/where-to-launch-your-product-25-platforms-every-indie-maker-should-know.md - Author: Divv Saxena - Category: Launch Playbook - Published: 2026-10-02 - Summary: You built the thing. You built the thing. Now where do you actually post it so people find it? Here are 25 places I'd launch on, split into big stages, maker platforms, directories and socials, plus a simple four week plan so your launch isn't over in one day. ![Where to launch your product: the four types of launch platforms](https://www.divvlaunches.com/media/blogs/c809e74d-906f-4f9a-8845-e49e329f2ec6/1790974038029-686684501260.png) *Where to launch your product: the four types of launch platforms* When I started building in public, I thought launching meant one thing. Post on Product Hunt, refresh the page all day, done. That's not how it went. My first 40 days had basically zero traction. What actually started working was showing up in a lot of small places, again and again, instead of betting everything on one big day. So this is the list I wish someone had handed me. No fluff. Just where to launch, what each place is good for, and how to not waste your time. ## First, why launch in more than one place? Because every launch platform does a different job for you. Some give you a big spike of visitors for a day. Some give you a few real users who actually give feedback. And some give you a backlink that keeps helping your Google ranking for years. If you only launch on one big platform, you get the spike and then nothing. If you spread out, you get all three. ![The launch stack: big stages for spikes, directories for lasting links](https://www.divvlaunches.com/media/blogs/c809e74d-906f-4f9a-8845-e49e329f2ec6/1790974038449-43ac1e1306a5.png) *The launch stack: big stages for spikes, directories for lasting links* Quick note on backlinks: if you are new to them, read our beginner guide first, What is a backlink. Short version: a dofollow link from another site tells Google your site is worth trusting. A nofollow link still sends visitors but doesn't pass that SEO value. Both are useful, just for different reasons. ## The big stages These are the ones everybody talks about. Lots of eyeballs, lots of competition. Go here when your product is polished and you have time to be online all day replying to people. **Product Hunt.** Still the biggest launch day in tech. Great if you have a network ready to support you on the day. Hard if you are launching cold with no audience, so don't make it your first launch. **Hacker News (Show HN).** Post your product as a Show HN. The crowd is technical and honest, sometimes brutally. If it hits the front page, the traffic is huge. Write like a human, not a marketer, or it will flop. **Reddit.** Subreddits like r/SideProject, r/indiehackers and r/alphaandbetausers are made for this. Read each subreddit's rules first. Share the story of why you built it, not just a link. **Indie Hackers.** A community of people building exactly what you are building. Better for sharing your journey and numbers than for a one time launch post. ## Maker launch platforms These are smaller than Product Hunt, which is honestly the point. You won't get buried in the first hour, and the people browsing are other makers who actually try things. **DivvLaunches.** Okay, this is ours, so I'm biased. It's a launch platform built for indie makers, with daily launches, a product directory and our Flight Log newsletter that goes out to subscribers. If you're reading this, you already know where the Book your launch button is. **Uneed.** A clean daily launch platform with a friendly maker community. Good for getting early upvotes and a few first users. **Peerlist Launchpad.** Peerlist is a professional network for builders, and its weekly Launchpad gets your product in front of developers and designers. **DevHunt.** Made specifically for developer tools. If you built something for devs, launch here. **Microlaunch.** Built for small products and side projects. Less pressure, longer launch window. **Fazier.** Another daily launch platform for makers. Easy submission and a decent community. **BetaList.** Best for products that aren't fully launched yet. Great for collecting early signups while you're still building. **TinyLaunch.** Small launch platform focused on indie makers and tiny products. **Launching Next.** A long running directory of new startups. Simple submission, nice for a steady link. **Nick Launches.** A launch platform for indie products with its own newsletter and community. Another good spot to get your product in front of makers. ## Directories that keep working for years Directories are boring, and that's why most people skip them. But they don't disappear after 24 hours. People search them when they're looking for a tool, and a good listing keeps sending visitors and SEO value long after your launch week. **SaaSHub.** A big software directory where people compare tools. Add your product and pick the right alternatives so you show up next to bigger names. **AlternativeTo.** People search here for alternatives to popular apps. If your product replaces something well known, this one can send surprisingly good traffic. **Startup Stash.** A curated directory of startup tools and resources. **G2.** The big one for B2B software reviews. Worth it once you have a few happy users who can leave reviews. **Capterra.** Similar to G2, popular with small businesses looking for software. Again, reviews are what make it work. **Crunchbase.** Less about traffic, more about credibility. A complete company profile helps when investors, journalists or partners look you up. **There's An AI For That.** If you built an AI tool, this is one of the biggest AI directories out there. **Futurepedia.** Another large AI tools directory. Worth submitting to if your product uses AI in any way. **Toolify.** AI tools directory with lots of categories, good for niche AI products. ## Your own socials This one gets ignored, but it's where your launch actually lives long term. Platforms come and go. Your audience stays. **X (Twitter).** Build in public. Share the launch, then share the results. My monthly numbers posts get way more reach than any launch announcement ever did. **LinkedIn.** Underrated for indie makers. Tell the story behind the product in plain words and tag the platforms you launched on. ## How to check if a listing gives you a real backlink Not every platform gives you a dofollow link, and this can change over time. So don't trust any list, including this one. Check it yourself. It takes 10 seconds. ![Right click your link, choose Inspect, and look at the rel attribute](https://www.divvlaunches.com/media/blogs/c809e74d-906f-4f9a-8845-e49e329f2ec6/1790974038735-b267f6c39396.png) *Right click your link, choose Inspect, and look at the rel attribute* - Open your live listing page. - Right click on the link to your website and choose **Inspect**. - Look at the code. If there's no **rel** or it doesn't say nofollow, ugc or sponsored, it's a dofollow link. - If it says **nofollow**, **ugc** or **sponsored**, it's still worth having for traffic, it just won't pass SEO value. ## Don't launch everywhere on the same day This was my biggest mistake early on. I submitted everywhere in one afternoon, got one small bump, and then had nothing left to talk about. Spread it out over a few weeks instead. Every new platform becomes a new reason to post on X and LinkedIn, and every post brings a few more people back to your product. ![A simple four week launch plan](https://www.divvlaunches.com/media/blogs/c809e74d-906f-4f9a-8845-e49e329f2ec6/1790974039023-2e41fcd611d1.png) *A simple four week launch plan* - **Week 1:** submit to 8 to 10 directories. They take time to approve anyway. - **Week 2:** launch on the maker platforms. Reply to every comment. - **Week 3:** go for the big stage, Product Hunt or Show HN, once you've fixed what the first users told you. - **Week 4:** post a recap with real numbers. Visitors, signups, what worked, what flopped. People love this stuff. ## Before you submit anywhere Have these ready in one doc so every submission takes two minutes instead of twenty: - A one line tagline that says what your product does, not how cool it is. - A short description, around 2 to 3 sentences. - A logo, 3 to 5 screenshots and if possible a short demo video. - Your website link with UTM tags, so you know which platform actually sent people. - Before you post anywhere, [check how your link will look when it is shared](/tools/link-preview-checker). Every platform builds its card from the same title, description and image tags, so one fix covers all of them. - A first comment or maker note explaining why you built it. ## Wrapping up You don't need to launch on all 25 this week. Pick five that fit your product, check what kind of links they give, and spread them out. Launching isn't a single day. It's a habit. Keep showing up in small places and it adds up faster than you'd think. And when you're ready for your next one, come launch with us on DivvLaunches. I'll see you on the runway. ### What is a backlink beginner guide - URL: https://www.divvlaunches.com/blog/what-is-a-backlink-beginner-guide - Markdown: https://www.divvlaunches.com/blog/what-is-a-backlink-beginner-guide.md - Author: Divv Saxena - Category: Launch Playbook - Published: 2026-09-28 - Summary: Learn what backlinks are, why they matter for SEO, and the difference between dofollow and nofollow links, explained in plain language. **FLIGHT SCHOOL · BEGINNER GUIDE** **Backlinks, explained for people who just shipped their first product** *What a backlink is, why everyone keeps telling you to get them, and the one term you actually need to know.* By Divv Saxena · DivvLaunches · 6 minute read You built something. You put it online. Then someone in a founder group said, "Nice, now go get some backlinks." And you nodded, because that is what you do, and then you quietly searched for what a backlink is. This guide is for that moment. No jargon, no SEO theory, just the handful of things a new maker needs to understand before spending a single hour or dollar on this. ## What a backlink actually is A backlink is a link on someone else's website that points to yours. That is the whole definition. If a startup directory lists your product and includes a link to your homepage, that is a backlink. If a blogger mentions your tool and links to it, that is a backlink. If your friend adds you to their "tools I use" page, same thing. ![](https://www.divvlaunches.com/media/blogs/c809e74d-906f-4f9a-8845-e49e329f2ec6/1790623959041-8266d260f705.png) *A backlink is simply another site pointing to yours.* The word sounds technical because it comes from the search engine world. Google sees the web as a giant map of links. When it finds a lot of sites linking to yours, it treats that as a signal that people find your site worth pointing at. ## Why anyone cares Search engines have a hard problem. Millions of pages claim to be the best invoice tool, the best habit tracker, the best whatever. They need some way to decide which ones to show first. One of the signals they use is links. A link from another site works a bit like a vote of confidence. A site with many good votes tends to show up higher in search results than a site with none. That is why makers care. Backlinks are one of the few things you can actively go and get in your first weeks, before you have much content or any brand. They help Google trust a brand new domain a little faster. Three honest caveats before you get excited: - **Not all votes are equal.** A link from a well known site counts for far more than a link from a site nobody visits. - **They are slow.** Backlinks help over months, not days. - **They cannot rescue a bad product.** Links get people to your page. What happens after that is on you. ## The one term you need: dofollow vs nofollow This is the part that trips most beginners up, so here it is in plain language. Every link on the web can carry a small hidden tag that tells search engines whether to count it. A **dofollow** link says "yes, count this." A **nofollow** link says "this is a link, but do not treat it as a vote." ![](https://www.divvlaunches.com/media/blogs/c809e74d-906f-4f9a-8845-e49e329f2ec6/1790623959627-caf0167c722c.png) *Both links work for humans. Only one of them helps your ranking.* A few things worth knowing: - Dofollow is the default. If a site does nothing special, the link is dofollow. - Big platforms like Reddit, Twitter and most comment sections mark links as nofollow, because otherwise they would be flooded with spam. - A nofollow link is not useless. People can still click it and find you. It just does not move your search ranking much. - When a directory says it offers "dofollow links," it is telling you the listing will count as a vote. That is why makers look for it. You do not need to check this yourself for every site. Most directory lists, including the one on DivvLaunches, tell you which links are dofollow up front. Here is a real example of a listing backlink, the kind described above. DivvLaunches is now listed on Nick Launches, where builders can upvote and follow it: https://nicklaunches.com/products/divvlaunches/ ## What "DR" means, and why makers obsess over it You will see "DR 32" or "DR 50+" thrown around. DR stands for Domain Rating. It is a score from 0 to 100, invented by an SEO tool called Ahrefs, that estimates how strong a website's backlinks are. A brand new site starts at 0. A site like Wikipedia sits near 100. Most indie products and small directories live somewhere between 10 and 50. The score matters for one practical reason: a dofollow link from a DR 60 site gives you more of a boost than a link from a DR 8 site. So when you are choosing where to spend time, higher DR directories are usually the better use of it. Do not chase the number for its own sake. Nobody buys your product because your DR went up. It is a rough indicator, useful for prioritising, and that is all. ## Where new makers actually get backlinks You do not need a PR agency. Most early links for indie products come from a few places: - **Launch platforms.** Sites like DivvLaunches, Product Hunt and similar. You get a permanent product page with a link back to you. - **Startup directories.** Curated lists of tools, sorted by category. Each listing is a page about your product with a link. - **Your own profiles.** GitHub, LinkedIn, X, Dev.to and similar. Some are nofollow, but they still help people find you. - **Other makers.** Friends who link to you from their blogs or tool lists. Underrated and free. - **Content people want to link to.** A useful comparison, a free tool, a good write up. This takes longest and pays off the most. ## The badge trade, explained Many directories and launch platforms, DivvLaunches included, ask you to place a small "Featured on" badge on your website in exchange for a free listing. Here is the deal being offered. They give you a page and a dofollow link. You give them a link back from your site. Both sides get a backlink. Nobody pays. Is it worth it? For a new site with no links at all, usually yes. The badge sits in your footer, costs nothing, and the link you get in return is one you would otherwise have to pay for. If you would rather keep your site badge free, most platforms offer a paid option instead. Both are fair choices. ## What to realistically expect ![](https://www.divvlaunches.com/media/blogs/c809e74d-906f-4f9a-8845-e49e329f2ec6/1790623960283-10abcbf80da0.png) *The timeline most new makers see, roughly.* If you submit your product to ten decent directories this week, here is roughly how it goes: - **Week 1.** Listings go live one by one. You might see a handful of visitors from each. Google has not noticed anything yet. - **Month 1.** Google has crawled the links. Your site starts to look a little more established. Pages you publish now get indexed faster. - **Month 3.** The links have settled in. Ranking for your own product name is easy. Ranking for competitive keywords still depends on having good content. If you were hoping backlinks would send a flood of customers, adjust that now. They are groundwork, not a growth channel. The traffic from directories themselves is small. The value is in what they do for your search visibility over time. ## A simple first week plan 1. Write your product details once: name, a one line tagline under 100 characters, a short description, a logo, and two screenshots. Save them in a doc. You will reuse them everywhere. 2. Launch on one platform first so you have a permanent page and a badge to place. 3. Submit to five to ten directories. Prioritise the ones marked dofollow and with a DR above 20. 4. Keep a spreadsheet with the directory name, date submitted, and whether it is live. Approvals take days to weeks. 5. Then stop, and go back to building. Check the sheet once a week. That is the entire beginner version. Everything past this point is optimisation, and you can worry about it once you have something people actually use. **Want the full list?** DivvLaunches publishes the complete list of directories we submit to, with the DR and dofollow status of each one, at divvlaunches.com/directories. If you would rather not fill 74 forms by hand, we also do it for you. ## Product catalog Every approved public listing, newest launch first. ### BuiltToWinWeb - Flight: DL130 (Gate: A04) - Tagline: Hand-coded custom websites for one flat fee, plus AI software: AIWebBuilding AI website builder, WebAgentScan AI agent s - Pricing: Paid - Categories: Developer Tools, Productivity, AI - Launch Date: 2026-10-14 - Launch Option: Free Launch - Maker(s): Jacob Campbell (@built2winweb) - Direct Website: https://built2winweb.com/ - DivvLaunches Page: https://www.divvlaunches.com/product/builttowinweb - Description: Hand-coded custom websites for one flat fee, plus AI software: AIWebBuilding AI website builder, WebAgentScan AI agent scans, AI Indexing Pack and FreeAIBoost. ### Notify Sound - Flight: DL131 (Gate: B11) - Tagline: Shape custom notification sounds with AI - Pricing: Free - Categories: Creator Tools - Launch Date: 2026-10-14 - Launch Option: Free Launch - Maker(s): Notify Sound - Direct Website: https://notifysound.com/ - DivvLaunches Page: https://www.divvlaunches.com/product/notify-sound - Description: Notify Sound is a free app to shape custom notification sounds for your mobile phone. Tell your AI assistant, such as Claude or ChatGPT, what you want to hear (a soft two-note chime, a retro coin pickup or an alert that cuts through a noisy room), and it builds the sound layer by layer. It hands you a link that opens the sound in the editor, ready to play and to change. Or start from a sound you like and shape it yourself until it feels like yours. Every change plays back the moment you make it, so you can soften a ping that feels too sharp, let a bell ring out a little longer or give a chirp a lift at the end. A touch of space around the whole sound makes it warmer. A single tone can sound thin, so you stack layers for depth: a bright layer above the main note adds sparkle, and a low one underneath adds weight. You just need someone to listen.** [Zuzu Club](https://www.zuzu.club) is a free, anonymous space to vent, listen, share what you’re feeling, and feel a little lighter. There’s **no signup, no login, and no account required**. At its heart is anonymous 1:1 peer support. Choose **Vent** when something is on your mind and you want a real person to listen. Choose **Listen** when you have the space to be there for someone else. Zuzu connects two strangers for a private, ephemeral conversation without profiles, followers, or social pressure. If no listener is available, **Zuzu’s AI Companion** can step in as a fallback. It is designed differently depending on whether you are venting or practicing being a better listener, while keeping the focus on supportive conversation rather than replacing human connection. There’s more than chat: - 🌻 **Vent & Listen**. Anonymous 1:1 conversations with real people. - 💭 **Sky of Thoughts**. Share a thought anonymously, discover what others around the world are feeling, leave kind responses, and connect when someone is still around. - ✨ **Let Go**. Write down something weighing on you and watch it disappear through a simple interactive ritual. - 🤖 **AI Companion**. Someone to talk to when a human listener isn’t available. - 🌍 **Multilingual**. Designed to make conversations easier across languages. - 🔒 **Privacy-first**. No accounts, public profiles, follower counts, or permanent chat history. - 🆓 **Actually free**. No subscriptions, ads, or paywalls. **Why Zuzu?** Most social platforms are designed around identity, attention, followers, and engagement. Zuzu takes a different approach. You can arrive as a stranger, say what you need to say, connect with another human, and leave without building another online identity. It is built around a simple idea: **everyone has something to say, and everyone can be there for someone.** Zuzu is community-based peer support and self-expression. It is not therapy, professional mental-health care, or a crisis service. 🌻 **[Try Zuzu Club](https://www.zuzu.club)** ▶️ **[Watch the 1-minute introduction](https://youtu.be/NPgW_9yYqzA)** ### Amber - Flight: DL108 (Gate: A13) - Tagline: One fast, focused place for everything you reuse. Most directory sites rely on automated scrapers to dump thousands of unverified links into their databases, prioritizing vanity metrics over utility. Visitors end up wasting valuable hours clicking through 404 errors, dead side projects, and repetitive prompt wrappers that slow down real work instead of helping them build. StackLedge was built as an honest, human-curated alternative. Operating on a strict quality-first philosophy, the platform rejects scraper bots entirely. Every SaaS platform, artificial intelligence tool, and integration submitted to the directory enters a manual review queue. A real person checks the live URL, reads the documentation, and confirms that the software actually delivers what it promises before publication. Low-effort spam and broken links are turned down immediately. The directory is organized around three essential categories: Practical SaaS Applications: A focused collection of lean, reliable software for billing, analytics, customer support, and project management that solves operational headaches without enterprise pricing bloat. Vetted Artificial Intelligence: Instead of showcasing generic prompt wrappers, StackLedge spotlights AI tools and agents that automate complex workflows, assist with coding, and deliver tangible productivity gains. The Automation & n8n Hub: Modern systems thrive on integrations. StackLedge features a dedicated repository for developers to discover, share, and rank custom n8n workflows and community nodes, letting teams grab proven backend logic and connect services in minutes. With a community-driven upvote leaderboard and neatly organized collections, StackLedge eliminates the digital noise so founders, developers, and operators can discover trustworthy tools and get straight to building. ### ToolVerified - Flight: DL105 (Gate: C15) - Tagline: A hand-checked directory of new tools, each reviewed by a person before it publishes. The vast majority of software indexes rely on unmoderated automated scripts that approve submissions blindly, burying users under non-functional prototypes, expired domains, and deceptive marketing pages. ToolVerified was engineered to restore clarity, trust, and high editorial standards to digital product discovery. Rather than compiling an unchecked catalog of internet noise, ToolVerified operates as a carefully inspected showcase for newly deployed SaaS platforms, practical AI systems, and specialized developer tools. Our fundamental operating principle is direct human verification. Before any tool is published, a member of our editorial staff personally tests the application, verifies that active features align with advertised capabilities, and confirms that the product provides legitimate, real-world utility. Submissions that fall short of this functional baseline are systematically declined. To make navigation effortless, approved applications are organized into precise operational verticals, including Artificial Intelligence, Engineering Utilities, Team Productivity, Creative Media, and Financial Operations. This intuitive taxonomy empowers digital professionals, agency owners, and growing teams to pinpoint targeted workflow solutions in seconds. Beyond editorial screening, ToolVerified is powered by an active community of technical founders, early adopters, and discerning operators. Registered users trial new tools in their everyday environments and cast upvotes for the applications that provide exceptional value. This transparent peer consensus directly shapes our daily and weekly trending leaderboards, surfacing the most capable software on genuine user merit. ToolVerified bridges the gap between innovative builders seeking authentic early traction and professionals searching for vetted, production-grade tools to upgrade their tech stack. ### Image Sharpen - Flight: DL103 (Gate: B05) - Tagline: Sharpen blurry images, unblur photos, and upscale low-quality pictures instantly with AI.
